Steakhouse 55

We were ecstatic to hear about Steakhouse 55…Because let’s be honest, who doesn’t love all things Disney? When we arrived we immediately felt the white glove experience.

There were three afternoon tea options to choose from (Classic Tea Party ~$50, Premium Tea Party ~$65 and Kid’s Tea Party ~$35). Since we had a fun filled day ahead of us, we decided to go with the Classic Tea Party. We were presented with the traditional scones that were served with fruit preserves, Devonshire cream and lemon curd as expected. The tea sandwiches included the staple cucumber sandwich, deviled cage-free egg salad, heirloom caprese and a smoked salmon mini blini. All of which were gratifying. The highest tier was filled with chocolate covered strawberries, raspberry tarts and an assortment of macaroons. Unfortunately, the tea selection was mediocre as Steakhouse 55 only offered 16 different teas. However, we all know that it’s not about the quantity but rather the quality of the tea that matters most.

Therefore, we decided to go with The Perfect Afternoon (a blend of Assam, Darjeeling and Ceylon tea), Eros (sweet orange and creamy vanilla bean blended with medium-bodied Ceylon leaves) and the Thunderbolt Darjeeling (alluring complex with floral bouquet, aka: the Champagne of Teas). I truly enjoyed the Perfect Afternoon as well as the Thunderbolt Darjeeling as their suttle boldness was just the right amount to cut through the sugars of the petit fours. Eros on the other hand was a  little too sweet for me.

Upon finishing our tea we simply informed the busser that we had forgotten the name of the tea we had chosen. In that moment, she removed the lid of the teapot, slightly leaned in to smell the aromas of the tea and instantly responded with Eros. To our surprise she got it right!

Unfortunately, knowledge in tea is not enough. The sandwiches could have been more elegant while the desserts felt like they were thrown together last minute. We were also disappointed in the tea sets. Their blank canvas felt unfinished and we needed something more…We neded Disney…Hopefully, Steahouse 55 is able to add a Disney stamp to the their afternoon tea in the near future, or else they will never stand out as a true contender in the world of afternoon tea affairs.
